Durante os quatro meses que passei em Cabo Verde, fotografei as pessoas que conheci e as paisagens que me rodeavam. Passei os primeiros três em Santiago e no último parti em direcção a outras ilhas (São Vicente, Santo Antão, Fogo e Boavista). De um total de 35 rolos a preto e branco resultou esta selecção.

During the four months I was in Cape Verde, I photographed the people I would get to know and the landscapes around me. I spent the first three in Santiago and traveled to other islands in the last one (São Vicente, Santo Antão, Fogo and Boavista). From a total of 35 black and white rolls resulted this selection.

Comecei a fazer fotografia aos doze anos e só parei aos dezanove. De 1988 a 1995 tirei um total de 106 rolos (21 a cores e 85 a preto-e-branco). Agora, aos trinta, resolvi digitalizar todos esses negativos e mostrá-los. São sobretudo fotografias dos sitios por onde parei durante a minha adolescência: Açores, Madeira, Alentejo, Beira Baixa, Sesimbra, Espanha, Gerês, etc. Outras feitas em casa. São cerca de 3800 fotografias das quais seleccionarei as que me parecerem ter mais interesse. Vou colocá-las por ordem cronológica e tentarei comentá-las todas.

I started photographing at the age of twelve and only stopped when I was nineteen. From 1988 to 1995 I took a total of 106 rolls of film (21 in color and 85 in black and white). Now, at the age of thirty, I decided to scan all those negatives and show them. They're mostly photographs of the sites I stopped by during my adolescence: Azores, Madeira, Alentejo, Beira Baixa, Sesimbra, Spain, Gerês, etc. Some others are made at home. They're about 3800 photographs from which I'll select the one's with the most interest. I'll post them chronologically and try to comment them all.

Durante quatro meses registei os momentos que se foram tornando as minhas memórias. Estas Pequenas Histórias de Cabo Verde são a transformação de um processo documental numa série de ficções, como diferentes capítulos do mesmo livro.

For four months I'd been recording the moments that would become my memories. These Short Stories from Cape Verde are the transformation of a documentary process into a series of fictions, like different chapters of the same book.
