No dia 3 de Maio de 2008, quando passavam cinquenta minutos do meio-dia, aterrava na cidade da Praia. Com os devidos atrasos, estaria de volta a Portugal só no dia 1 de Setembro.
Durante estes quatro meses fotografei as pessoas que conhecia e as paisagens que me rodeavam.
Passei os primeiros três na ilha de Santiago, entre os dias de semana na Serra Malagueta, junto das famílias rurais e camponeses que aí vivem, e os fins-de-semana na praia do Tarrafal, nas festas de Ribeira da Barca e Porto Rincão, na Calheta de S. Miguel, na Praia ou na Cidade Velha.
No último mês parti em direcção a outras ilhas. Percebi porque chamam ao Mindelo (São Vicente) a capital cultural, encantei-me com a paisagem natural de Santo Antão, joguei futebol à sombra do vulcão do Fogo e andei pelas praias desertas da Boavista.
Depois de dois anos na prateleira, tive o maior prazer em voltar a fotografar com a velhinha Canon manual, sempre com película a preto e branco. Foram 35 rolos, dos quais resultou, com a ajuda do João, esta selecção.

On the 3rd of May 2008, with fifty minutes passed midday, I was landing in the city of Praia. After the usual delays, I would only be back in Portugal on September 1st.
During these four months I photographed the people I would get to know and the landscapes around me.
I spent the first three on the island of Santiago, between the weekdays at Serra Malagueta, together with the rural families and peasants living there, and the weekends at the beach in Tarrafal, at the festivities in Ribeira da Barca and Porto Rincão, in Calheta de S. Miguel, Praia or Cidade Velha.
On the last month I traveled to other islands. I understood why they call Mindelo (São Vicente) the cultural capital, got enchanted by the natural landscape of Santo Antão, played football by the shadow of the volcano in Fogo and walked along the desert beaches in Boavista.
After two years on the shelf, I had the greatest pleasure to photograph again with the old Canon camera, always shooting with black and white film. From a total of 35 rolls, resulted, with the help of João, this selection.
