Pistas para uma paisagem, Cabo Verde, 2008 - 2009
"Estas fotografias deixam-nos pequenas pistas visuais sobre a intervenção humana nestas paisagens e subtilmente interpreta os acontecimentos que levaram a essas intervenções.
Desta forma Diogo Bento interpreta a paisagem e coloca-a no centro da discussão sobre os efeitos das alterações a que paisagem e populações têm sido sujeitas, numa luta onde muitas vezes a paisagem é subjugada às necessidades das populações que resolvendo hoje um determinado problema – seja a fome, seja a necessidade de construção ou outra – que por vezes abre caminho a um problema maior no futuro. E no entanto as alterações, subtis ou brutais, estão lá e é esse cenário que o fotógrafo nos apresenta.
Mas também nos propõe outra discussão: quem efectuou estas alterações, quem foi responsável pelas mesmas? Mais uma vez as questões inerentes à colonização de África se colocam, sabendo que muitas vezes as populações estão a sofrer as consequências de actos ambientais para os quais não foram ouvidos nem foram responsáveis." – Mário Venda Nova, 2009
"These photographs leave us small visual clues about the human intervention on these landscapes and subtly portrays the events that led to those interventions.
Thus Diogo Bento interprets the landscape and places it in the center of the discussion about the effects of the changes that landscape and communities have been subdued, in a struggle where landscape is often subdued to the needs of the communities that, solving today a given issue - may it be hunger, the need to build or otherwise - gives way for a bigger issue in the future. Yet the changes, subtle or brutal, are there and that's the scenario presented by the photographer.
But it also poses another parley: who conducted these changes, who was responsible for them? Once again the issues relating Africa's colonization arise, knowing that most of the times the communities are enduring the consequences of environmental actions for which they weren't responsible nor listened to." – Mário Venda Nova, 2009
